2. Jared Diamond on why societies collapse on TED.  18 mins. Really comes into its own about 15 mins in when he talks about time fuses for the dozen or more ecological issues being 5 decades or less and that failing to address all of the problems (rather than just some) means we remain in very big trouble.  Does however, conclude that we have the ability to solve the problems since it is we who created them in the first place.

3. Discussion featuring environmental activist Julia Butterfly Hill who stayed in a tree for over two years before the timber company agreed not to cut it down (nor any of the trees immediately surrounding it). Julia has since been involved in environmental advocacy and has worked tirelessly in support of indigenous peoples around the world.

4. Robert Newmans History of Oil.  Comedian Robert Newman’s take on the History of Oil – funny and gets the point across very well.

5. A Farm for the future – Documentary shown on BBC about one woman’s quest to investigates how to transform her family’s farm in Devon into a low-energy farm for the future. Highlights unsustainable and sustainable farming in the context of peak oil.  Split into parts click in the other parts 2, 3, 4, 5.

6. Crude – The incredible journey of oil.  An amazing ABC Science (The Australian Broadcasting Corporation) documentary which goes back to the time when oil was created and also addresses both peak oil and Climate Change in today’s world. Use  alternative links 1 or 2 if it stalls during playback.

22. How Many Light Bulbs ? – from Cambridge Ideas.  Author David MacKay, physicist and author of the book at http://www.withouthotair.com.  Nice and short, he uses the simple idea of comparing all the things he measures to a standard 40W lightbulb powered on 24 hours a day (which equates to 1kWh – the same thing as 1 unit on your electricity or heating fuel bill).

23. Lester Brown (the author of Plan B, 2.0 and 3.0) on Trehugger TV around the time he did version 2.0.  Very poignant statement after 3 minutes 42 seconds “Saving Civilisation is not a spectator sport; we all have to get involved because we all have a stake in it”.
